US Sends F-22 Raptors to RAF Lakenheath Amid Heightened Middle East Tensions

A squadron of U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors has touched down at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, marking a notable transatlantic deployment amid rising tensions with Iran. The move, part of Operation Coronet East 083, comes as global eyes focus on potential shifts in U.S. military posture.

The 12 stealth fighters departed from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, flying in three formations under the callsigns TABOR51, TABOR61, and TABOR71. Each group included four aircraft. Their journey across the Atlantic was supported by KC-135 and KC-10 aerial refuelling tankers, operating under the GOLD series callsigns—an extensive operation that highlights the logistical complexity of long-range fighter movements.

Though the F-22s remained undetected on civilian flight tracking platforms, military aviation watchers and livestreams confirmed their evening arrival in the UK. Footage showed the Raptors landing at RAF Lakenheath with their tanker escorts, drawing attention from defence enthusiasts and analysts alike.

So far, the Pentagon has made no official comment on the deployment. However, the scale and precision of the operation have fueled speculation of an evolving U.S. response to regional instability—particularly in light of growing concerns surrounding Iran’s military activity.

The F-22 Raptor is considered among the most advanced fighter jets globally, offering unmatched stealth, speed, and maneuverability. Deployments of this scale to Europe are often interpreted as either strategic deterrence or a signal of increased readiness.
