Patria and Latvia Strengthen Defense Ties with New Maintenance Deal for CAVS 6×6 Fleet

March 12, 2026

In a significant move to bolster Baltic defense capabilities, Patria and the Latvian government have finalized a comprehensive Life Cycle Support (LCS) agreement. This strategic pact is dedicated to the long-term upkeep and combat-readiness of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 fleet. By defining clear sustainment roles, the deal ensures that Latvia’s land forces can rely on their armored assets for decades to come.

A Tailored Approach to Military Logistics

Unlike general framework agreements, this specific contract is custom-built for Latvia’s operational environment. It successfully bridges the gap between local industrial capacity and the high-tech expertise of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

  • Operational Continuity: The agreement streamlines the delivery of services and technical products, ensuring no downtime for the 6×6 fleet.
  • Localized Maintenance: A major focus is placed on the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) technology transfer, which is expected to be fully operational by 2025.
  • Strategic Reserves: To guarantee autonomy, a robust stock of spare parts is being established, designed to sustain operations during both daily training and potential high-intensity crises.

Strengthening the Multinational CAVS Ecosystem

The CAVS program is not just a Latvian success story; it is a growing European defense initiative led by Finland. With nations like Sweden, Germany, and the UK participating, the program thrives on industrial cooperation.

Pekka Ruutu, Executive Vice President at Patria, noted that this synergy between national industry and Patria’s engineering heritage creates a “future-proof” defense structure. Meanwhile, Ugis Romanovs, Patria’s Country Manager, highlighted that the security of supply is now stronger than ever, thanks to local assembly lines that have been active since 2022.

With the CAVS platform already proving its durability in active conflict zones like Ukraine, this new support agreement solidifies its reputation as a leading choice for modern troop transport and battlefield integration.
