Development of Direction Finding (DF) Antenna System – Hardware & Software Integration
Project Description
We are seeking experienced freelancers to collaborate on the design and development of a Direction Finding (DF) Antenna system. The project involves both hardware and software components and aims to produce a high-performance DF system capable of accurately determining the direction of incoming RF signals.
Hardware Requirements:
Design or selection of DF antenna elements (e.g., loop, spiral, or patch arrays)
Antenna array layout optimized for 360° azimuth coverage
PCB design (if applicable) and basic mechanical housing structure
Specification of supporting RF components: LNA, filters, switch/multiplexer (if needed)
Signal Processing / Software:
Real-time processing of RF signals to estimate angle of arrival (AoA)
Implementation of direction-finding algorithms (e.g., MUSIC, Watson-Watt, Correlative Interferometry, etc.)
GUI for displaying DF results in real-time (Azimuth angle, signal strength, and optionally a 2D polar plot)
Integration with SDR (e.g., RTL-SDR, HackRF, USRP) or VNA-based receivers
Communication & Data Handling:
Serial or TCP/UDP communication support between DF system and host computer
Export/logging of measurement data in CSV/JSON format
Optional: GPS tagging of measurement points
Freelancer Requirements:
Demonstrated experience with antenna design, RF systems, or signal processing
Familiarity with tools like CST, HFSS, MATLAB, Python (NumPy, SciPy), or GNURadio
Ability to work independently and deliver testable milestones
Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts
Additional Information:
I will provide theoretical references and expected performance targets.
Budget and timeline are negotiable depending on expertise and approach.
Preference for freelancers with prior experience in military, telecom, or academic antenna/RF projects.
