Project Description

We are looking for a highly skilled RF engineer to remotely design and simulate a broadband Wilkinson power divider covering the 6 to 18 GHz frequency range. This component will be used in a wideband receiver front-end for radar and test equipment.

The project is focused entirely on simulation and design — no physical prototyping is required.

Objectives:

  • Design a Wilkinson power divider using microstrip or stripline technology
  • Frequency range: 6 GHz to 18 GHz
  • Performance targets:
    • Return loss (S11): < –15 dB over the band
    • Insertion loss: < 1.2 dB
    • Isolation (S23): > 20 dB
    • Phase and amplitude balance: tight control ±0.5 dB / ±5°
  • Use a practical substrate (Rogers, Taconic, or equivalent) with manufacturable dimensions
  • Ensure the design is suitable for PCB fabrication
  • Optimize layout for minimal size and maximum performance

Deliverables:

  • Full simulation model (CST, HFSS, ADS, or equivalent)
  • Exported S-parameter files (.s2p)
  • S11, S21, S31, and S23 plots across the 6–18 GHz range
  • 3D layout screenshots and geometry annotations
  • Compact PCB layout in DXF or Gerber format
  • Short documentation (2–3 pages) covering:
    • Substrate details
    • Key design choices
    • Matching and tuning considerations

Suggested Tools:

  • CST Microwave Studio
  • Keysight ADS
  • HFSS or FEKO

Ideal Freelancer:

  • Strong experience with passive RF components
  • Prior projects in high-frequency microwave design (10 GHz+)
  • Familiarity with broadband Wilkinson or Gysel power dividers
  • Ability to deliver manufacturable, simulation-validated results
  • Good documentation and communication habits

Timeline: Duration: 2–3 weeks
