Ukraine Approves ‘Dodger’ Multi-Role Ground Robot for Military Deployment

June 24, 2025

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has officially approved the deployment of the “Dodger” unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), a versatile robotic platform developed by Ukrainian engineers based on battlefield insights from the ongoing war with Russia.

Built for adaptability and rugged terrain, the Dodger features a wheeled chassis capable of transporting up to 250 kilograms (551 pounds) of cargo. Its primary role is to support logistical operations, such as delivering ammunition, supplies, and equipment to frontline units. However, the platform is also designed to serve in medical evacuation scenarios, transporting wounded personnel away from active combat zones.

Armored and Mission-Ready

The Dodger is equipped with armor plating, providing protection against small arms fire and battlefield debris. This added resilience allows it to take on more hazardous roles, including minesweeping and combat support tasks in contested areas.

Its deployment marks another step forward in Ukraine’s growing use of autonomous systems to reduce human risk and increase tactical flexibility.

Expanding Ukraine’s Robotic Arsenal

The Dodger is part of a broader effort by Ukraine to integrate unmanned ground systems into military operations. Earlier in 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces approved over two dozen new UGVs, and that number is expected to rise significantly in the second half of the year.

Among the latest systems adopted:

  • Termit – Capable of hauling up to 300 kg of cargo.
  • Shablia – Outfitted with a 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
  • Krampus – A mobile flamethrower platform.
  • Spider – Specializing in engineering and logistics tasks.
  • Donkey – Designed to tow vehicles the size of an SUV.

According to officials, over 80 unmanned ground systems have already been standardized and deployed across the Ukrainian military.
